These functions are used to check whether a character or string falls into a certain character class. You can find out more about these functions here.

Usually, the ctype_xdigit function comes bundled with other ctype functions as a part of the default PHP installation. Some hosting companies might leave the ctype_xdigit function out.

How to resolve this?

As mentioned, this is related to the functions included in PHP version your host installed on your server. Thus, the solution for this is contacting your hosting provider and asking the host to re-/enable the ctype_xdigit function for your website.

Why Is This Happening?

Seeing this message means that you’re being blocked due to some settings. Some of the reasons that can cause this are:

1. Your Astra theme is not activated or updated.
2. There is some issue with your Astra (parent) or Astra Child theme.
3. Renaming or modifying Astra theme or Astra Pro plugin folders or files

How To Solve It?

If this happens, please try these steps:

1. Please make sure that you have the Astra theme activated and updated to the latest version.

2. Suppose you tried activating the Astra Pro using the activation link on the Plugins page. Try navigating to Dashboard > Appearance > Astra Options and try activating Astra Pro from here.

3. Deactivate the Astra theme, delete it, reinstall and reactivate. Try activating the Astra Pro.

4. If you’re using a child Theme, please try switching to Astra (parent) theme and try activating the Astra Pro.

If this doesn’t help, try enabling the debug log to see if there are any errors related to Astra Pro.

This causes a problem, where you won’t be able to upload the Astra Pro zip file from the Plugins page.

As WordPress requires the plugin to be a zip to be uploaded.

This can be easily fixed, by disabling the setting Preferences in your Safari Browser and other browsers too.

Following are the steps to download the plugin’s zip file on a –

Safari browser:

1. Go to the Safari browser’s Menu, navigate to Safari > Preferences. Under which at the bottom of the General tab, disable the checkbox option of Open “safe” files for downloading.
2. Now, visit the Store account and you will be able to download the Astra Pro or even other plugin’s zip files successfully without being unzipped.

Firefox browser:

1. Go to the Firefox Menu (Hamburger Icon-Top Right Corner) under Options > Applications or Search Applications.
2. Now under, Applications, you must see a Search Bar, you should search for ZIP.
3. Besides the ZIP option, you will have to change the Action to Always Ask or Save File.

Chrome browser:

By default, Chrome does not automatically unzip the files. So you should not face any issues on Chrome browser.

If you are still facing issues on the Chrome browser, you might want to temporarily disable all the extensions, which might have this feature.

Note: If you try opening or clicking on the downloaded zip in the browser’s Downloads section, you might find it unzipped. Instead, simply visit the downloads folder and use the zip directly to upload it.

For other browsers:

You will need to contact the respective Support team of the browser for help or on how to find a solution to this issue.

Final Step:

Once, the plugin’s Zip is downloaded successfully, you can upload it. This document lists the steps.

Step 1: Install the Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin.
Step 2: Download the zip file of the Astra theme here.
Step 3: Upload the downloaded zip as installing a theme.

Below are the detailed steps –

Step 1 – Download Astra theme’s zip from WordPress repository
Step 2 – Unzip the Astra theme zip file
Step 3 – Open your WordPress site via FTP. We would recommend you to use FileZilla

Sometimes you may find more than one zip file for the Astra theme and other purchased plugins. You might be wondering which zip you should install from the list. This article will help you to understand various zip files available in the store. For example –

In the above screenshot, you can see various zip files are available for Astra Theme & Pro Addon. While working on a major update for the Astra, we make it a point to release a few beta or RC versions before the final stable product. Here, users can try out the new features, test them, and share the beta/RC version feedback. The stable version releasing process follows the pattern: Alpha -> Beta -> RC -> Stable. Below is the description for these versions  –

1. Alpha
   • This package contains very initial development for the new feature.
   • Generally, it is for the internal usage of the development team and it is not available in public.
2. Beta
   • This is the next version of the alpha and contains the basic functionality of new features.  They are available in public.
   • It is strongly recommended to use beta zip on staging or local environment. DO NOT use them on live sites as they release in the middle of development.
   • Beta is released so that users can try the new features, test and share feedback. Read more here.
3. RC ( Release Candidate )
   • As the name suggests, this package is a candidate for a stable release.
   • Usually, we do not update any major thing after RC package.
   • Again it is strongly recommended to use RC zip on staging or local environment. DO NOT use them on live sites.
4. Stable
   • Zip files that do not have a suffix like RC or beta are stable version zip files. As in the above screenshot,  Astra Pro Addon Plugin – Version 1.5.2 is a stable version zip for Astra Pro plugin.
   • You can use stable version zip on your live sites.

Conclusion

If you wish to test new features, you can use the beta/RC version on the staging/ test environment. As they might need some improvements we DO NOT recommend to use them on live sites.

Finally, if you want to update Astra Pro on your live website, use only a stable version (e.g., Astra Pro Addon Plugin – Version 1.5.2). A stable version is tested and usually error-free, so there should be no major issues after the update.

We follow a Beta testing process while releasing any major version. It allows us to provide a working copy of the upcoming release to our customers and get feedback on new features, improvements, and fixes. It is a part of our efforts to release only stable and thoroughly tested updates.

Until now, you had to log in your account on our store, download the beta version and install it manually on your website. But now, we’ve simplified the processing by introducing a feature that will allow users to easily participate in the Beta Program. You can now enable automatic beta updates for Astra Pro on your website.

The setting can be found under Appearance > Astra Options > Allow Beta updates.

You will see the Allow Beta Updates box. Click on the Enable Beta Updates button.

Important Note –

1. Automatic Beta Updates feature is available only with Astra Pro Addon plugin. You will only find this feature with Astra Pro Addon plugin but enabling this option from Astra Pro Addon will display beta updates for both Astra Pro plugin and Astra Theme. Whenever there is a beta update available for Astra Pro or Astra theme, you will get the update notification in WordPress updater.
2. If you want a beta update notification for Astra theme, you can enable the above option from Astra Pro. If you are not Astra Pro user then you need to manually download the zip for beta and upload it to the site. Read more here.
3. Beta versions are stable as possible since we release them only after testing internally. But we still recommend you to use them only on staging sites or playgrounds. Do not use beta features on live websites. Read About Beta Versions. 

How to revert back to the previous version?

In case you update theme or plugin to the beta version and want to revert back to the previous stable version, follow the steps –

Step 1: Install Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin.
Step 2: Download the previous stable version of the theme from here. 
Step 3: Download the previous stable version for Astra Pro from your store account.
Step 4: Now upload recently downloaded zip for theme and plugin to the site.
Step 5: Easy Theme and Plugin Upgrades plugin will override the current beta version of the theme and plugin with a zip uploaded in Step 4.
